My favorite products: In the bath

I thought I would share some of my favorite products with you along with my morning bathing routine.  the products I use are by no means the "be-all-end-all" of personal products, just the ones that are best for my skin and are least toxic to my body and health because lets face it, I don't need any more toxins in my body.  So here goes...

This is my favorite toothbrush.  It has taken me a while to find one but after a long time of looking but I have found it.  It is the Preserve toothbrush made from recycled yogurt cups, you send in the toothbrush when you are done with it in the envelope provided by them and they recycle it by replacing the brushes and viola! It's special curved design really gets my back teeth well and is super duper comfortable (even though it looks like it might not be).

My fav toothpaste
Jason Powersmile is my favorite toothpaste.  I have been using it for many years and every time I go to the dentist he cannot believe how little plaque and tartar I have and how clean and healthy my teeth and gums are.  It is rated a 2 on the Cosmetics Safety Data Base scale (0-10, 0 being least toxic and 10 most).  For a reference point, Crest's least toxic toothpaste is a 4 with the highest being a 7, so if you are brushing with Crest, most likely you are brushing with toxins.

Earth Therapeutics Skin Brush
Tampico Vegetable Fiber
Before I get in the shower I use my dry brush.  If you have never heard of it or if you have but have never tried it you simply MUST!  Here is a great blog with everything you ever wanted to know about dry brushing and all the benefits of it.  This is a picture of my dry skin brush.  I purchased it for $8 at my local Fred Meyer, so in other words, they are easy to find.  It is really quick and easy to do.  It only takes a couple of minutes to do and it is soooo worth it! Your skin feels so soft and smooth and you will notice the difference in the first couple of times.  Forget all those lotions with toxins and fancy synthetic exfoliators etc. this works way better and clears your body of toxins as well.  Your skin is the largest organ on your body and what ever you put on it gets directly absorbed into your blood.  Dry skin brushing clears all that dead skin off allowing your body to release toxins.  It also invigorates you and leaves you feeling like a newborn.  Why would you not want to do it?

I love Oregon Soap Company Soap
My essential oil collection
Coconut oil (used also for cooking)
and some of my favorite e.o.'s
Next I either shower or take a nice hot detox bath.  Lets start with the shower.  I use the Oregon Soap Company's bar soap in Soapman's Spice in the shower.  While I am in the shower I use my Clairsonic Mia on my face with Desert Essence Gentle Nourishing Organic Cleanser.  When I get out and dry off I use either Grapeseed oil, or coconut oil  with a little essential oil depending on my mood.  If I am having terrible hot flashes I like to use an essential oil blend called "Cool Hottie" from Aura Cacia.  Sometimes (especially after chemotherapy) I like to take a nice hot detoxifying bath.  For this I use a product called Beyond Clean.  It helps your body get rid of toxins and keeps you from absorbing toxins in your water.  I also like the Desert Essence shampoo and conditioner too.  I really love the coconut one, smells great too :)

Ok, I have held onto this for almost a week now thinking that I wanted it to be "perfect" before I published it, but I have let that go....thankfully :)

So here is the first installment of "My favorite products"  I hope you enjoy.

  1. Where can I get Oregon Soap Co soap and 'behond clean'? I do love my hot baths in my deep Jaccuzzi tub. I've used Vitabath for years (Badedas in Germany), probably toxic.

  2. Hello Mountainmother :) Let me post the links for you (if I can find them) I would say that close to you there is a place in Federal Way called MM&D (I think) you might try there (it is a natural health/food store). I know for certain that Whole Foods has the soap.
The beyond clean product I will have to research a little more. But I absolutely LOVE it. Make certain that you don't have anything going on after your bath because sometimes the detoxifying process really wears you out big.
    BIG LOVE!

  3. mountainmama,
The link is posted for the Beyond Clean. It looks like no one carries it in a store so you will have to order online.

Here is the place I found it the cheapest....https://www.immunematrix.com/store/product.php?productid=16161&xid=ca66e2815bcc2e8b866199311829adca

  4. Laura, I just found your blog. Sorry to take so long, but happy you've reached your anniversary. That post made me smile, your joy really came through and thanks for this post, too. I'm always interested in more natural products than those I'm currently using. Must stop that. Thanks for the suggestions.

  6. Laure,
I admire people like you who take the time to research about better products like these. They are surely better for you and the environment too. Good for you. I need to start reading more labels that's for sure!

  8. Thank you Nancy! I spend most of my shopping time standing there reading all the ingredients in whatever it is I am purchasing...It takes a long time to shop anymore.
Elise, I just wash with soapy water and let it air dry (about every 2 weeks or so, maybe sooner when you first begin because there will be more skin etc in the brush) You are gonna love it! My skin is so soft now and I really notice a difference if I don't do it one morning.
I got another post in the works too (I am hoping to work on it during chemo today....even more products! I am going to go through every room in the house :)
    Love you all!

  9. Oh, the thing that they do with that toothbrush is amazing! It's even better that they're doing it for the sake of the environment. Recycling is one of the best ways to preserve non-biodegradable things. It's good to know that you patronize such a helpful service.

  10. Timothy,
Aren't these toothbrushes just the best!? I just mailed my old one off yesterday. I love how they give you a postage paid mailer to send them back in. PLUS they even cost less than most other toothbrushes (especially at Trader Joes-$2.99 rather than $3.99 at most other stores) and I absolutely LOVE the angle of the handle as it reaches even my back teeth.
Thanks for checking out my blog, I appreciate it!
Much peace, love, joy, happiness, and HEALTH.
    Laura
